We have make progress on the Summit Hills housing development legislation both in the House and in the Senate thus far. The bills would allow for changes in the ownership rights from the State of MN to the County for purposes of conducting an Association meeting to determine the changes of the “covenants” that currently are too restrictive to spur new development since foreclosure. It has been 5 long years of this contentious situation. This legislative change could become a game changer for the sale and development of this property.
I want to thank Rep. Dean Urdahl for sponsoring this bill in the House, and Sen. Newman for sponsoring this bill in the Senate. Yesterday the Mayor of Dassel Jeff Putnam, City Clerk Terri Boese and I attended the Senate hearing for the Energy and Land Committee. David Krueger (Executive Director MDC) testified to the need of the one time special purpose bill for Summit Hills. The committee passed it, and now goes to the Judiciary committee this Friday, April 8th, at noon. If it passes this committee it will then go to a full Senate vote. The House has already passed this bill. There for it both houses pass the bill, it will then go to the Gov. for writing it into law. We hope for these bills passage. Thanks to everyone for there hard work, support and efforts on this situation throughout the years. Lets get this properties back on the county tax roles.
